Meet the Couple Who Won Britain's 33M Pounds Biggest Ever National Lottery Jackpot (Photos)

Winners of Britain's biggest ever Lotto jackpot reveal how they plan to spend their 33 million windfall and how they celebrated with a cup of tea.
David and Carol Martin

A couple from the Scottish Borders, David and Carol Martin, have been named as winners of £33million, half of the historic £66million British national jackpot. The couple, both 54, revealed they were 'shocked' and described the experience as 'surreal' when they found out they have won.

They said at a press conference this morning that one of their first purchases will be a first-class ticket home for their 26-year-old daughter, Lisa, who is working for a recruitment company in Australia.

Mr. Martin revealed that the couple's daughter was the first person they contacted when they found out about the win. "We caught Lisa on the telephone as she was driving to work and told her to pull over.

She thought something bad had happened as we normally only Skype or WhatsApp her to keep the costs down. So, when we telephoned she was really worried. Then we told her we’ve just won 68 million in Australian dollars. She couldn’t believe it and thought we were pulling her leg."

Mr Martin, who has a heart condition, also revealed he was keen to help flood victims battered by recent storms, while on a personal front he spoke about going to a number of live sporting events. He talked about going to Wimbledon and the Masters golf tournament and was also keen on buying a holiday home.

The couple, who have been married for 28 years, are planning to retire as soon as possible and said they would love a new home in the country, local to where they live now, and a holiday home in the sun.

Mr Martin said: 'It’s everyone’s dream to win the lottery. I’ve talked about winning and what I would do so many times. But now it’s actually here my mind’s gone blank. We don’t have all the answers yet but we’d like to help our closest friends and family, and there are charities which are important to us too.

Parts of our community have also been hit by flooding and we know lots of people who have struggled in recent times, so there’s a lot for us to work out but it’s a nice problem to have.'

See Faces of the Evil Thugs Who Brutally Tortured an Old Man and Filmed the Horrific Scene

A pair of evil thugs have been jailed after they filmed the horrifying torture of an elderly man on mobile phone after tying him to bed.
One of the thugs, Richard Finch

The thugs, Richard Finch and Jaye Corcoran's have been jailed after they left their aged victim semi-naked on his bed with severe injuries and tied up with his own clothes.

Richard Finch, 25, was locked up for nine years alongside his accomplice Jaye Corcoran, 24. The pair trussed up their 64-year-old victim, before subjecting him to the prolonged and brutal knife attack.

He was left with serious injuries to his face and chest, as well as numerous puncture wounds to his shins, and spent a number of days in intensive care.

After three weeks in hospital, he now has difficulty walking and suffers short-term memory loss.

Finch, of no fixed address but formerly from St Helens, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and false imprisonment.

Jaye Corcoran

Corcoran, of no fixed address but from Dublin, was convicted by a jury of the same charges, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The violence took place in the early hours of March 17, 2015, after police were called to a hostel in Westminster, central London, where the 64-year-old victim and the attackers lived.

The pair met Mr Brown when they were living in bedsits in central London.

Schizophrenic Corcoran, originally from Dublin, had been released from a psychiatric hospital just weeks earlier.

The elderly man's ordeal took place in the early hours of 17 March and only ended when Corcoran took pity on him and called police.

Officers found the victim semi-naked on his bed with severe injuries - the clothes that had been used to tie him up were still lying on the bed.

DC Andy Kidd of the Westminster Serious Crime Unit said the motive for the attack remained unclear.

He said: “Richard Finch and Jaye Corcoran for reasons only known to themselves, subjected the elderly and vulnerable victim, who they had only just met, to a prolonged, sustained and brutal attack the like of which was akin to systematic torture.

“Their actions were totally inexcusable. Today they have been sentenced to a substantial period of imprisonment.”

Kurt, 26, put his unusual treat on Twitter and it has gone viral .

He said: "Hundreds of people from across England retweeted and commented on the post. It was a huge surprise."

See What Lionel Messi's Fans Did to C.Ronaldo's Golden Statue in Portugal (Photos)

Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo's sister, is enraged as Lionel Messi fans vandalizes his brother's statue in celebration of the Barcelona star's 5th Ballon D'or.
Ronaldo and his sister, Katia Aveiro

A popular statue of Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo on his native island of Madeira has been tagged with the name and number of his longtime Barcelona rival, Lionel Messi.

In 2014, the statue was erected in Madeira's capital city, Funchal, in honour of the Portugal forward's footballing achievements.

Ronaldo's sister, Katia Aveiro, has expressed her outrage after the graffiti was found on Tuesday following the 30-year-old's loss to the Messi in the 2015 Ballon D'or on Monday.

Blasting those responsible, Aveiro, went as far as to suggest that the perpetrators would be more at home in war-torn Syria rather than the island. She took to her personal twitter account to say:

"You all know I'm this man's sister, and above all how much proud I am to be so, and to know the wonderful and fighting person he is.

I find the act in itself a disgrace but what I find more shameful is the envy that surrounds him and the anger that some unloved and frustrated pig-headed people display in public in a disgraceful way which leaves me embarrassed and sad as a Portuguese person.

The people that are responsible for this and other negative things directed towards this person should know that our island was recently voted the world's leading island destination not just for the beautiful sea that surrounds us, nor for the marvellous gastronomy we also have nor the warm Madeiran welcome.

It was in part thanks to this great Madeiran figure that honours his origins and from time to time emphasises it in public.

Most of us should thank and salute to this man, it's thanks to him that a lot of Madeirenses still have their jobs.

My beautiful island, regrettably, is still inhabited by some frustrated savages who deserve to live in Syria, between people that show no respect and hold no value for life in society.

I apologise for the ones who live the sadness of war, but I believe some people don't belong on the land they live in."

Richard Mofe Damijo

Veteran Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe Damijo, popularly known by his initials RMD, is definitely one of Nollywood’s biggest actors.

RMD recently revealed during a broadcast interview with Africa Magic’s magazine TV show ‘Jara’, on how much movie producers pay him to feature in a movie.

“It’s safe to say you’re definitely one of the most sought after and respected actors in Nollywood, it must cost a producer millions of dollars to have you in his movie”,
The host of the show Uti Nwachukwu asked RMD.

RMD replied saying: “I don’t know what you are talking about, I mean we are in Nigeria”.

He went further: I find ironical that I cost a lot less either because I’m blackmailed constantly by producers and directors. They’re my boys or their younger, no money. You’ll be amazed that for every three films, I’ll probably do two free, practically for next to nothing. It’s just hard to say no”.

Hilarious! This is What Happens When a Horse Photobombs Your Picture (Photo)

A young girl about to take a selfie took no note of the horse behind her until it reared its head the moment she was taking the snap and the result is hilarious.
Elsie Frew

5-year-old Elsie Frew has become a worldwide phenomenon after a photo her mum, Carolyn, took of her went viral.

She posed for a photo while on holiday in Florida and at just the right moment, one cheeky horse called Sparky loomed into view to have his picture taken too.

The family had been enjoying a display by the Budweiser Brewery Horses at the Old Town amusement park in Kissimmee, Orlando when the pic was taken.

The pictured has garnered 10 million likes after media heavyweights as if media heavyweights like CNN and Fox News carried it.

Elsie's mother, Carolyn, 42, from Mauchline, Ayrshire, who runs a vintage pram business, said: "Elise thinks it's great. She went back to school this week, and she thinks she's absolutely famous now."

Elise's dad Scott, also 42, who helps Carolyn with the pram business, said: "It's such a funny picture. People have been saying that it's so good it must have been photoshopped. But it's absolutely 100 per cent genuine. It's just one of those classic moments."

Missing Budget: Senators Suspect Presidency Behind Missing 2016 Budget Documents

The embarrassing announcement that went viral yesterday after it was revealed that the 2016 Budget was missing has taken a new twist as the presidency has been fingered.

Some Nigerian senators said Wednesday they are suspicious the Nigerian presidency is behind the sudden disappearance of the 2016 budget submitted to the National Assembly.

The lawmakers said the intelligence they had so far gathered suggested that the presidency discreetly withdrew the documents to enable it to make some adjustments to it.

The president had presented the budget to a joint session of the legislature in December. PREMIUM TIMES had reported Tuesday that the senate, during an executive session, declared the documents missing.

The Senate Leader, Mohammed Ndume, sources said, informed the senators, upon resumption from the Christmas/New Year break, that deliberations on the budget could not commence until fresh copies of the documents were obtained from the presidency, Ministry of Finance or its national planning counterpart.

However, some senators, who requested not to be named so as not to anger the presidency, said they had since realised the budget was discreetly withdrawn by the president in order to make some adjustments.

The senators said the presidency had in the past two weeks been combing through the budgets with a view to removing provisions that had so far exposed the administration to ridicule.

“The executive have now started delivering fresh copies of the budget documents to the National Assembly,” one of the senators said.

“The details in the copies they are delivering are different from those in the version delivered to the National Assembly in December. Some adjustments have been made.”

But the presidency has however denied withdrawing the document. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said only Mr. Buhari could withdraw the budget but had not done so. He suggested that the issue of missing budgets should not arise because several copies of the document were sent to the legislature.

“Nobody except the president can withdraw the budget; as far as we know, he hasn’t done that,” Mr. Shehu said in a response to PREMIUM TIMES enquiry on the matter Tuesday.

“The copies in their hundreds have been delivered to both chambers of the National Assembly.

“By tradition, once the budget is submitted, it ceases to be our property. Inquiries should be directed to the appropriate quarters.”

When contacted, the Minister of State for National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, expressed shock at reports of missing budget. She explained that ahead of Tuesday’s resumption of the Senate and House of Representatives, more than 400 copies of the document were delivered to the two chambers on Monday by the printer, for distribution to all members.

“After the official presentation of the budget by the President on December 22, 2015, both hard and soft copies were given to some key members of the Assembly. How can anyone say all the copies are missing?” she said in an interview with PREMIUM TIMES.

“Immediately after the presentation (by Buhari), most of the members went on break. But a printer was given the job to produce the document for distribution to all members on resumption.

“On Monday, the printer delivered more than 400 copies to the National Assembly for distribution to members and their aides. Another 100 copies were delivered this afternoon (Tuesday). Therefore, the same budget cannot be said to be missing.”

Mrs. Ahmed argued that if there is need to withdraw the budget, the same process with which it was presented by the president to the legislature would be followed.

Nnamdi Kanu in Serious Danger As his Health Deteriorates in DSS Detention - IPOB

An alarm has been raised on the deteriorating health of the founder of Radio, Nnamdi Kanu after he is being held in DSS detention for over three months now.
Radio Biafra Founder, Nnamdi Kanu

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has raised an alarm, accusing the Department of State Security of denying Nnamdi Kanu medical treatment as his health in detention deteriorates. It claimed attempts by the founder of Radio Biafra to have his doctor attend to him have been stopped by the DSS.

IPOB  Media and Publicity Officer, Mr. Emma Powerful alleged in Nnewi on Sunday, that the Federal Government through the DSS has perfected plans to systematically kill Kanu in the DSS  cell by denying him medical attention and subjecting him to torture on daily basis.

“Information from a reliable DSS source revealed that the Federal Government is also planning to transfer Mr. Kanu to a particular cell in the country where members of Boko Haram are detained, and it is their plan to kill him there,” Powerful said

He said that IPOB had written the United Nations, the African Union, AU, United States of America, Russia, France, Israel, Britain and Amnesty International, including other relevant world bodies and organizations about the life threatening treatment being given to Kanu by the Federal Government  through the DSS operatives.

He also warned the FG that if anything should happen to Nnamdi Kanu in detention, there will be more chaos. He accused Buhari of disobeying court orders after two competent courts of jurisdiction have granted him bail.

“President Buhari and DSS will have no defence if they  allow Mr. Kanu to die in the hands of DSS, more so when two competent courts of jurisdiction have granted him bail. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. A word is enough for the wise. Nobody is sure of his health condition now, and therefore, Kanu should be released and allowed to see his doctors.

“The present administration’s continued detention of Kanu when the courts had granted him bail is a flagrant abuse of power and lawlessness on the part of President Buhari and the DSS, and Nigeria is gradually  reverting to dictatorship.

“The President is behaving as if he is above the law. Why can’t he respect the law if he has regards  for  democratic government, or is this  the change he is talking about, going from lawfulness to lawlessness?”

A man who was about to get wedded to his wife has had the embarrassment of his life when the skirt he was wearing suddenly left his waist and falls to his feet.

Plenty of people have nightmares about being half-n*ked in front of a crowd - but it came true for this man at his own wedding.

The man was filmed wearing a veshti skirt, a traditional men's garment, worn in South Asia wrapped around the waist and secured only by a knot.

The groom is walking with the bride behind him holding hands when it suddenly falls down exposing his underwear and legs.

And in an unfortunate omen, it appears his newly wedded wife was to blame. The video shows her accidentally stepping on her husband's garment.

Recorded by multiple cameras, the man quickly bends down to pick up his piece of clothing and retie the knot.

But it was too late to avoid embarrassment and the footage has since been posted online.

Father Sets Son Ablaze for Stealing from Road Side Beggars in Kwara

A man has suffered cruel fate in the hands of his father after he did a most irresponsible act towards a roadside beggar in Omu-Aran, Kwara state.

A tragic event has claimed the life of a 22-year-old man,  Sola Akangbe, in Omu-Aran, Kwara in the early hours of Saturday following wounds from a fire allegedly set on him by his biological father, Kehinde.

It was gathered that the diseased, a wheelbarrow pusher had stolen an undisclosed amount of money from some roadside beggars on Friday and was apprehended and handed over to his father.

The father, a commercial driver, allegedly drove his son to a nearby bush on Omu-Aran-Isanlu-Isin road, tied his hands and legs before setting him ablaze.

Sola, who was still alive when he was rescued, told his rescuers that his father was responsible for the act.

He suffered high degree burns and was confirmed dead by doctors at Ajisafe Hospital, Omu-Aran, where he was rushed to by the police on Friday.

Doctors battled to save his life but could not because of the severe nature of the burns.

10 Biggest Corruption Cases that Shook Nigeria in 2015

This is a list of the top cases of corruption in Nigeria that were exposed on the news media in the year 2015 thereby causing a huge storm.
Sambo Dasuki

Corruption has been described as Nigeria’s major problem, hindering development, creating a wide gap between the rich and the poor. While the majority wallowed in poverty, few in government pocketed our commonwealth.

Here are some of the biggest corruption cases and allegations that shook Nigerians in 2015 as compiled by Greeennews.ng

1. Dasukigate

Perhaps one of the biggest scams in the history of Nigeria as the APC –led federal government opened a can of worms when it decided to probe the spending of arms fund under the immediate past administration of the PDP.

Sambo Dasuki and four others are standing trial for allegedly laundering and diverting $2.1 billion (N546 billion) arms fund. This is enough to fund the 2016 proposed budgets of Ebonyi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Edo, Yobe and Ekiti states altogether.

The arms scandal became even more worrisome as media organisations were also caught in the scam. Although, the media organisations, mostly newspaper publishers, claimed the money was meant for compensation for the damages the Military cost them in 2014. Some of the media organisations are now returning N9million each to the Office of the National Security Adviser though NPAN.

2. Diversion of One Trillion by Former EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Lamorde

The stain of corruption did not spare anti-graft agencies as former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, was accused of fraudulently diverting over N1tn proceeds from corruption recovered by the agency.
A petition by George Uboh alleged that part of the diverted fund included the loot recovered from a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha; and ex-Inspector-General of Police, Tafa Balogun.

Lamorde, who is yet to clear his name in the scandal, was later sacked as EFCC chairman on the 9th November 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

3 NIMASA N2.6 Billion Scam

Former Director-General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Patrick Ziadeke Akpobolokemi and five others staff of the agency are currently standing trial on a 22-count charge for allegedly stealing the sum of N2.6 billion belonging to NIMASA.

Embarrassingly, Akpobolokemi on December 14 resisted re-arrest by the EFCC within court premises after he was granted bail by the court. The drama which was caught on tap went viral on social media as EFCC operatives forcefully dragged Akpobolokemi into a waiting van.

Akpobolokemi is in EFCC custody and his awaiting trial.

4. $1 billion missing monthly – Sanusi

Nigerians could not but screamed when former Central Bank Governor and Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, revealed that about $1bn (N260bn) went missing every month under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former central bank governor, said this during a programme entitled ‘How a cancer of corruption steals Nigerian oil, weapons and lives’, which aired on The PBS NewsHour, an American daily evening television show.

The monarch said many dirty and shocking deals took place under the immediate past Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is currently being investigated in the United Kingdom.

“In Nigeria, there is no accountability at all and that is why I think Nigeria’s corruption is worse than corruption in most parts of the world. It is the worst type of corruption; It’s stealing”

“Frankly, I think a billion dollars under Jonathan a month was about what we were losing.”
Sanusi said.

The allegation has not been investigated by Nigerian Government or Anti-graft agencies

5. N6 Billion Bribe To Christian Leaders

On the 4th of February 2015, The then Director-General, Buhari Presidential Campaign organisation, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, accused some church leaders of taking N6 billion bribe from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to campaign against the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).

Meanwhile, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and the PDP denied the allegation but in a twist, a Borno-based Pastor, Kallamu Musa-Dikwa, on February 19, said that the money that was given to Pastors by the [former] president was actually N7bn and not N6bn as alleged by Amaechi.

6. Illegal Diversion of $322million (N83.72 Billion) Abacha’s loot By Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and Ngozi Okonjo Iweala

Digging deep into the source of funding for the Dasukigate since the National Assembly never appropriated as much as $2.1Biliion for defence budget, it was discovered that Former Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala approved the diversion of $322 million Abacha’s loot to former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki to fund the purchase of arms to fight Boko Haram terror.
